Bengal Tigers live in small parts of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal. Their habitat range has decreased drastically over the last few years, as shown in the image below. Habitat loss and poaching is the primary reason they are endangered. Though only around 2500 are left in the wild, they are one of the most populous tiger species found in the wild. India began to establish reserves in 1970 in order to protect the tiger from going extinct. Bengal Tigers live in varying environments from dry deserts to cool and wet forests. One major group working to protect Bengal Tigers is WWF or World Wildlife Fund. This group works to raise fund to protect various endangered species and create conservation sites, as well as raising awareness for endangered or threatened organisms. India has made many conservation sites because Bengal Tigers have become a key part of their culture. One group, though in America, that works to protect Bengal Tigers along with other endangered big cats it The Cougar Mountain Zoo. It holds many big cats that they raise and spread awareness about going extinct. This group along with many others is trying to protect the natural world around us to make sure that the growth of human population does not kill out the natural world.
